Taking as a basis everything we have learnt over these last 12 years and what we have seen when we visited other centres in several European cities, we designed a new Re-homing centre with all the facilities and services necessary to properly tend to the animals we have rescued and give them a good quality of life during their stay with us.
The new centre corrects the deficiencies of our previous shelter and has been expressly designed to cover all the animals’ needs in terms of health and welfare. There are separate buildings for each species, which are in turn separated from the quarantine or sick bays. Our new centre also has additional services, such as a veterinary clinic and surgery open the public, operating theatre, X-ray studio, and animal hospital facilities. There is also a module for cats, and stables for equines. Among other installations, there is a therapeutic bathing facility and a puppy quarantine unit. All the buildings are well isolated and there is a heating system in all animal quarters.
The Centre has a capacity for 150 dogs, 30 cats and 3 horses, and receives about 1,000 animals each year.

- EQUIPMENT BLOCK
This building has three separate sectors for the veterinary clinic, administrative offices and the keepers’ living quarters.
The veterinary clinic: consists of a public surgery, operating theatre, X-ray studio, and two hospital units for sick animals.
Administration offices: Room for adoption procedures, shop, volunteers’ cloakroom, bathroom, storage facilities.
Keepers’ living quarters
- PUPPY QUARANTINE UNIT
Puppies are housed in a separate building consisting of four rooms because they arrive in a weak state and with low defences, and must be isolated from the other animals until they have been fully vaccinated.
- QUARANTINE FOR ADULT DOGS
All dogs arriving at the re-homing centre stay in this unit for an observation period of about 10 days before mixing with the other inmates. During this time they are de-parasited and vaccinated, and undergo several tests to verify their state of health.
After this, they are transferred to the regular living quarters and made available for adoption.
- THE DOGS’ HOUSE
This building is partitioned into 40 kennels, each of which houses 4 or 5 dogs, selected by size and compatibility. Each kennel has an indoor area with heating, and an outside patio, and there is access to 8 large exercise yards where the dogs are released to run every day for over half-an-hour.
- QUARANTINE FOR CATS AND THE CATS' HOUSE
Cats have quarantine sectors, where they are lodged for an observation and recovery period. After this, they are housed in one of the two cats' quarters in the cat house, comprising two indoor areas and two outdoor patios.
- STABLES FOR EQUINES
Horses, donkeys and similar animals have their own quarters in our centre. There are three stables and storage facilities for food in a special building opening on to an area for pasture.
